Route History

Service 3 was introduced in 2002 from the merger of Feeders 294 and 357, plying between Tampines and Pasir Ris before being extended to Punggol in 2003. It is a residential trunk route serving the regional centres of Punggol, Pasir Ris and Tampines estates, and incorporating a short express sector along the Tampines Expressway (TPE) between Pasir Ris and Punggol.

As remnants of its Feeder past, Service 3 continues to be the sole service running through Tampines St 21, Pasir Ris St 21 and Pasir Ris St 71, hence linking these neighbourhoods with Tampines Regional Centre or Pasir Ris Town Centre.

Due to the lack of alternative routes along Tampines St 21, Pasir Ris St 21 and Pasir Ris St 71, this route partially takes up the role of connecting commuters to the town centre in Pasir Ris New Town and regional centre in Tampines New Town. It also complements the passenger demands of Service 83 within Punggol New Town. Between Pasir Ris Dr 12 and Punggol Rd, this route uses the Tampines Expressway (TPE) to connect to and from Pasir Ris and Punggol.

This service also plies different routings in the forward and reverse direction around Tampines Street 21 and 23. Commuters are advised to be aware of the bus stops served.

Service 3 is a wheelchair-accessible bus route (WAB) since 26 Oct 2009. It received additional buses under the Bus Service Enhancement Programme (BSEP) progressively from 2013 onwards. In 2014, the Bus Service Reliability Framework (BSRF) was implemented on this route for a two-year trial. On 7 September 2015, double-decker buses were deployed, following years of complaints about overloading.

2015 Route Amendment

Due to the realignment of Pasir Ris Central from 12 December 2015, Service 3 will be amended to ply the extended Pasir Ris Drive 8. A new pair of bus stops will be built along Pasir Ris Drive 8. Meanwhile, the existing pair of bus stops along Pasir Ris Central will be relocated to Pasir Ris Drive 8, retaining the bus stop name as well as bus stop code. Also, Service 3 will no longer call at Bef/Aft Pasir Ris Central bus stops along Pasir Ris Dr 1.

  1. This stu[id bus number 3 is damn long long waiting time, especially the bus stop infront of Tampines 1. It takes waiting time of approximately 20 minuteswaiting time for each bus number 3 to get out of that stupid Tampines Interchange.

Btw, the bus-stop in front of Tampiens 1..bus number 27 can consecutively 3 to 4 buses one after another.

It is supercrowed (passengers can stand till the doorsteps besides the bus driver…imagining those staying at Punggol had no choice but to try to board on it. If not you will have to wait long long for another 20 minutes before another bus number 3 comes again.

Damn lousy service bus number 3.

    • Absolutely agreeable with you on this bus unbelieveable frequency on bus #3 and #21. I have already highlighted to Land Transport Ministry since 8 months ago that bus #27 arrives at Tampines 1 Bus stop arrive back to back with empty passenger on board and none to pick up either. This number 27 frequency is every 5 minute or better. Even taxi queue loose out to it. This is so ridiculous! or rather outrageous!! They said they will relook at the frequency of #27 but nothing has changed. Somebody up there need to be changed then.

      • Yes, agreeable to your comments too Parricia, the bus stop in front of Tampines is always supercrowded with passengers going to Punggol arears and thsi bus number 3 , if you had missed one, you ‘ll have to wait for another 20 minutes to 30 minutes before another one’s arrival timing….so no choice those people had no choice but to board on to it even though it is so packed like sardine can till the door steps next to the bus driver’s seat.

And the next rediculous things is that other than bus number 3, the buses numbers 168, 27, 15 can arrives consecutively one after another one two to three same number bus at the same timing too….it is really a very poor and low standard quality of mode of bus transport in Singapore for this bus number 3 and it had been operating for years or even decades without any improvement on it too…anyway next month I will be shifting out of Tampines to Yishun …and I find that the TransIland Yellow Bus is so much faster and better quality services than the SBS bus too and most important is that the waiting time is shorter too……shame on this bus number service quality too…and i wont suffer much anymore in waiting for this damn stupid bus number 3 home from Tampines Bus Interchange anymore next month onwards too…HURRAY!!!!

Thanks for your kind cooperation in high lighting on this too.

  2. 2015 Route Amendment

Also, Service 3 will no longer call at Bef/Aft Pasir Ris Central bus stops along Pasir Ris Dr 1.

this is a long route walk for the commuters!
