LTA-SBST Joint News Release

Route History

Service 119 is the second bus service to be “introduced” under the Bus Service Enhancement Programme (BSEP). For more information on the BSEP, click on the link to a separate article. It was actually extended from Sengkang to Punggol, and received Volvo B9TL Wrights under the BSEP scheme. It marked the return of double-decker buses to 119, which were phased out long ago.

The intratown route provides connections between Punggol, Sengkang, Hougang and Kovan. It loops at Hougang Street 21 FC, the old Hougang South Bus Interchange.

SBS Transit will extend the current route of its Service 119 from Sengkang Bus Interchange to Punggol Bus Interchange. With the extension, the service will provide new housing areas along Punggol Field and Punggol Way with a bus connection to the nearest MRT and bus interchange at Punggol. In addition, residents in Sengkang and Hougang will also enjoy enhanced inter-town connectivity to amenities and attractions in Punggol such as Punggol Waterway.”

Despite the route amendment and fleet addition, demand between Sengkang and Punggol is moderate to low, with many of the residential estates still under development. Double-deck buses under the BSEP scheme are not fully utilized.

Fare: Charges fares for regular trunk services. See Bus Fares for exact fares.

Fleet: Service 119′s fleet comprises of Volvo B10M MkIVs, Scania K230UBs and Mercedes-Benz Citaros. Two Volvo B9TL Wrights were added under the BSEP scheme.
