Route History

Service 857 connects the residential estates of Yishun, Khatib, and private estates around Yio Chu Kang Road, with a fast connection to the City areas of Little India, Bras Basah, Suntec City and Marina Centre. The route incorporates an express sector on the Central Expressway (CTE) between Yio Chu Kang Road and Jalan Toa Payoh in both directions, making it a popular connection between the North and the City.

Demand for the route is moderate during off-peak hours but very high during peak hours, as residents commute to and from the City and various industries along Yio Chu Kang Road. High capacity double-deck buses were deployed from 26th April 2015 onwards.

Introduced in 2001 by Trans-Island, the route has not undergone any amendments since, except for a diversion to Prinsep Street when a portion of Bencoolen Street was closed for Downtown Line construction.

Between 2240hrs and 2330hrs daily, buses leaving Yishun Temp Int will terminate at 02151 Temasek Boulevard (Suntec Convention Ctr). The last bus returning to Yishun leaves Suntec City at 2328hrs.

Shortworking Trips:

  • Service 857A: Yishun Temp Int → Yio Chu Kang Road (Opp Sunrise Gdns)
    Weekdays AM Peak hours

Service 857A caters to the industries along Yio Chu Kang Road, reducing peak hour loading on Service 857 and hence benefitting commuters heading from Yishun towards the city.

Fare: Charges fares for regular trunk services. See Bus Fares for exact fares.

Fleet: Service 857′s fleet comprises of both rigid buses and double-decker buses. Bendy buses may be use as substitute to the double-deckers, or as capacity boosts during the weekends or periods of high demand, such as festive periods and major events at Suntec City.

  1. I took your service 857 on 30 dec at 10 pm from near armenian st. ( SMB 153C). As Ii was travelling with a friend who was visiting from overseas and did not have an ezlink card i proceeded to ask tge driver how much the fare to st michaels was. The driver was obviously from China and did not speak a word of English and despite me repeating myself ttree times. In the end he told me $1.80 which was not the correct fare. This is public transport in Singapore. How can we have a non – English speaking person plying our roads and over charging citizens? ??

    • Dear Radha,

Do check the bus services information panel at the bus stop to check the bus route and fare payable first befpre boarding the bus.

  2. My son Sri Balaji Vijayan lost his EZ link card with his wallet in Service 857 while he is on his way to Farrer Park Primary School today morning. Pls do reply to me the father contact no: (Edited) Thanks

  3. Waiting at the Bus Stop near Boon Keng MRT waiting for SMRT BUs 857 since 825am today. The first Bus 857 only came at near 905am after about half hour, which could be seem as normal. But when reached and alighted at Bust Stop – Opp Sunrise Gdns – Yio Chu Kang at 925am, though frustrated at being so late to get to destination, it became even more upsetting when you see 2 more Bus 857 coming one after another. It became more ridiculous to see another 5 more Bus 857 coming one after another with less than 10 passengers in the bus. 7 Bus 857 at the same Bus Stop after I alighted within less than 2minutes after the first Bus 857 I took to reach.

    Can please look into this.

  4. I wish to highlight to your attention about bus 857 (SMB154A) whereby the air condition was not functioning normal causing poor air ventilation in the bus. The date and time I was travelling was 16 April 2016 4pm towards Yishun Interchange. Most of the passengers were sweating like crazy. Thanks.
