Route History

Express service 951E provides residents of Woodlands with greater connectivity to Dhoby Ghaut and Shenton Way. By running parallel to the existing North-South Line (NSL), the service provides a travel alternative for commuters who relied on the rail network and existing feeder buses to and from work in the Central areas. The route incorporates a long express sector between Woodlands Avenue 1 and Dhoby Ghaut via Woodlands Avenue 12, Seletar Expressway (SLE) and Central Expressway (CTE), significantly improving journey time for commuters.

This is the twelfth bus service to be introduced under the Bus Service Enhancement Programme (BSEP), which provides more options for commuters using stretches of the existing rail lines that experience persistently high ridership, while ongoing rail enhancement measures are being implemented. As such, buses operating on this route are funded under the BSEP.

Operating during weekday peak hours only, Service 951E encounters very high demand on a daily basis, with buses often encountering full loading. Morning departures were gradually increased from 2 to 6, with Alexander Dennis Enviro500 double-deck buses operating on a regular basis.

Apart from Express 951E, Premium 587 also offers connections from parts of Woodlands to Shenton Way, while covering more of Orchard Road but charges higher Premium fares, as compared to distance-based express fares.

2015 Route Amendment

To reduce the duplicated sectors due to the launch of City Direct Service 665, Service 951E was amended to ply Woodlands Ave 5 instead of part of Woodlands Ave 4 and Woodlands Ave 1 from 12 October 2015. Commuters who used to board Service 951E along the last 2 stops at Woodlands Ave 4 & Woodlands Ave 1 should switch to City Direct 665 from the day of the route amendment, which duplicates Service 951E’s CBD Sectors.

Fare: Charges regular distance-based express fares. See Bus Fares for exact fares.

Fleet: Service 951E′s fleet comprises of MAN NL323F buses under the BSEP scheme.

  1. It should be ‘Commuters who used to board Service 951E along the last 2 stops at Woodlands Ave 4 & Woodlands Ave 1’ not Woodlands Ave 5 & Woodlands Ave 1.
    Please change it thanks.

  2. I would like to suggest turning 951E into a full day service as it would provide woodlands residents with a direct/alternative route into town areas. This would tremendously ease the crowding on the NS train line and also run as a highly profitable bus service, similar to 190/972. The demand for this service can easily be recognized by the high passenger loads on the current 6 trips run on this service. I really hope SMRT or SBSTransit looks into this, atleast as a trial service for a few months if possible. Currently there are limited options for travellers from the north and making 951E would be a welcomed relief. Hopefully a small route change, allowing it to ply the full stretch of orchard road can also be considered. I wonder why no bus firms are keen on implementing routes from woodlands/semb into town via expressways.
