  • 2014 (17 Feb): Introduced as a bidirectional AM/PM-Peak hour service from West Coast to the CBD under the BSEP. Operates two trips on weekday mornings at 7:35am and 7:50am, and weekday evenings at 6:20pm and 6:35pm. Charges Distance-based flat fares.
  • 2015 (23 Mar): Calls at new bus stop 03241 Anson Rd – Mapletree Anson instead of 03222 Anson Rd – Hub Synergy Point
  • 2016 (18 Jan): Operating contract for City Direct 655 by Woodlands Transport Service Pte Ltd extended by one more year.

City Direct service 655 provides residents of Teban Gradens, Pandan Gardens and West Coast with greater connectivity to the CBD. The service provides a travel alternative for commuters who relied on the rail network and feeder buses to and from work. The route incorporates an express sector between West Coast Road and Anson Road/Shenton Way via West Coast Highway.

This is the fifth City Direct service to be introduced under the Bus Service Enhancement Programme (BSEP), and one of ten City Direct bus routes to be progressively introduced until the 2nd Quarter of 2014. This provides more options for commuters using stretches of the existing rail lines that experience persistently high ridership, while the ongoing rail enhancement measures are being implemented.

In addition to City Direct 655, Premium Services 533, 589 and 762 also ply between West Coast and the CBD.

  1. I am a everyday-passenger who has been taking bus 655 to work. I have a request, is that possible bus 655 make an extra pick up stop at bus stop no 05649 (opp customs port Br Hq) along the Keppel Rd since bus 655 is passing through Keppel rd? Most of us finish at 630pm but not able to catch the bus 655 from MAS building, the bus stop opp MAS building quite a distance away fr our office. Hope you can look into this. Thank you for your time. Have a nice weekend!!

  2. Hi I take bus 655 in the mornings and I realised that we are always stuck in a jam for 10 mins on west coast highway, along the Japanese school bus lane. Is it possible to take an alternative Road, which is behind the Japanese school where the roads are always clear to save time and be more efficient?

  3. hi I am the regular user of bus 655 for evening route. So many people I have met they use only evening service as morning service is too early. Can you add one more trip at 8:30 around, more people would like to use this trip because of the timings. thanks

  4. Hi, have previously taken 653 and found it really reliable. 655 operated by woodlands transport is not only extremely unreliable (does not stick to time of arrival for almost 3-5 times a month) but also badly driven. Both drivers behave like tyrants on the road. There was not a single day that we do not experience sudden jerks and impatient horning at the traffic.

Can we also have Comfort Delgro to operate this service? I think they are doing a great job compared to woodlands transport.

  5. I am a daily user of 655 and in general I am happy with the service. However, today 3rd of June 2016 the bus driver from the first 655 bus refused to stop in the last stop in west coast road, waiving his hands as indicating the bus was too full. That was not accurate as there was plenty of space specially in the back to fit 2 more people in. So he could have simply asked people to move in to create space for us. Can someone please have a word with the driver to explain to him this is not acceptable?
