Service 979 Route Poster

Service 979 is a residential trunk route serving within the housing estates of Yew Tee, connecting housing blocks along Choa Chu Kang Street 52 and Choa Chu Kang Crescent with connections to key transport nodes at Yew Tee MRT, as well as Bukit Panjang MRT / LRT. The route serves schools such as De La Salle School, and community amenities such as Bukit Panjang Plaza, Junction 10, Yew Tee Point, Limbang Shopping Centre and Yew Tee Community Building. It duplicates SMRT Feeder Service 302 between Choa Chu Kang Street 52 and its looping point.

This new service is the fifty-third (53rd) bus service to be introduced under the Bus Service Enhancement Programme (BSEP) and is launched as part of the DTL2 Bukit Panjang Bus Service Enhancements in tandem with the opening of Downtown Line Stage 2. Additionally, this provides a vital link for Yew Tee residents to Bukit Panjang, the Downtown Line and thereafter to other towns and the City as previously residents must transit via Choa Chu Kang if they rely solely on Service 302.

No passenger boarding and alighting activities are allowed at Bukit Panjang Temporary Bus Park. The first stop of the route is Petir Road (Bukit Panjang Station), while the last stop is at Bukit Panjang Road (Block 183).

Future Extension

When widening and modification works at the junction of Woodlands Road with Stagmont Ring is completed, Service 979 is likely to be amended to ply Stagmont Ring instead of KJE, thereby increasing coverage along Choa Chu Kang North 5.

First Day of Operations

Service 979 offered free rides on 27 December 2015. Member of Parliament for Marsiling-Yew Tee GRC, Mr Alex Yam Ziming attended the official launch, riding the service from Yew Tee MRT Station to Bukit Panjang via Choa Chu Kang Crescent. Despite a full fleet of rigid MAN A22 buses, a bendy bus, SMB8032R, was dispatched for one special departure trip from Yew Tee MRT to carry the MP and his party.

Fares: Charges fares for regular trunk services. See Bus Fares for exact fares.

  1. LTA Bus Planners said the grassroots advisers agreed to this route, how can they forget about residents from St 54, North 6 (Yew Mei Green, Yew Tee Primary), North 5 (Villa Verde, Regent Secondary).?

    • Didn’t you read? They have to fix up Stagmont Road before they could re-route 979 through North 5 and covering the areas that you mentioned.

      • It still misses the Yew Mei Green condo bus stop and block 790 after the roadworks. It doesn’t serve Yew Mei Green, Block 790 residents and Yew Tee Primary School students. Yes they forgot a large amount of residents and students. Who approved this?

      • Ya….but LTA can’t possibly make 979 go to every single spot in Yew Tee… it just doesn’t work. And besides they are within walking distance from Yew Tee Station or the future bus stops of North 5. So I guess that’s why

  2. This is the first time that an SMRT MAN A24 cameoed on non-BSEP bus service 979 which is SMB8032R with the new livery & the newest full red SMRT logo of.

  3. But if bus 979 turns right after stagmont ring, then Choa Chu Kang North 6 will also be covered. It is a matter of how they plan the route of the bus.

  4. I take bus 979 from Ten Mile Junction Stn bus stop every evening but the bus always takes about 15 mins and is always full during peak hours.

  5. I wait for my bus at 7.30am at Regent Grove bus stop and note that often 979 is full and the bus captain gives us a wave. Could the frequency esp during morning peak hours be adjusted. Currently you have it at 8 to 9 mins for peak hours. Can you do better?

  6. 979 did not stop at bus no. 44259 . The bus stop sign show there is 979 .Pls kindly and softly remove it if you are not stopping to pick up customer.1 million thanks
