Launch of Bus Livery Voting

In a Facebook post, Senior Minister of State for the Ministry of Transport Ng Chee Meng launched the public voting for a new bus livery colour on 8 January 2016 at Joo Koon Bus Interchange. Present at the launch were the first two buses to be stickered with the voting livery, namely two SBS Transit Volvo B9TL buses: SBS3422Y in Red and SBS3423U in Green.

Two colors will be offered from the public to choose from, namely Bright Red (C1) and Lush Green (C2).

Why a common livery?

With the transition to a bus contracting model, the Government will gradually own all public buses. A common livery creates a unified and distinctive identity for the Singapore Bus, much like buses in London and Perth that all bear the same livery.

Along with the common livery, public buses will also bear a distinct logo which features the word ‘SG Bus’ with an embedded stylised heart within the logotype. It also includes the slogan, “Moving Ahead Together”, which heralds the arrival of Singapore’s new public bus industry, conveys commuters’ experience in their daily rides, and cultivates a sense of public ownership for the SG Bus.

The colour red symbolises is Singapore’s national colour and is associated with passion, excitement and vibrancy. As for the colour green, it depicts environmental friendliness and is a symbol of growth, vitality, prosperity and progress.

The common livery and logo will be introduced on buses starting with the Bulim Bus Package. It will be extended to other buses gradually as Government-owned buses replace existing operator-owned ones.

Buses painted in livery

To help commuters visualise the livery, 20 buses will be painted in the two colours (10 for each colour) and deployed to 10 bus routes (six from SBS Transit and four from SMRT) in service during the voting period. There will also be posters on buses, at bus stops, bus interchanges, and MRT stations.

Buses known to have the livery are:

  1. Can’t LTA settle for a colour less striking? It is bad enough that both colours are cheap-looking and the liveries are mere stickers applied on the bus surface, which adds to the cheapness. I honestly feel that BusPlus’ green is a much better option.

  2. If the same two colours are polled in Taiwan today, 99% will choose Green. If polled in China, 99% will choose red.
Why can’t LTA give us something less politically sensitive?
    Can we have purple?

    • Change is inevitable. SBS and SMRT had changed their liveries before (before that they were Superbus and Trans-Island respectively).

    • Regardless of what the colour will be, I suggest LTA keep the cartoon bus (if there are no ads). This goes in-line with the slogan of moving ahead together.

  3. Having buses in Singapore is already very good already, we are already very lucky to have an efficient transport system. Why fuss about the colour? Any colour would do, but I personally prefer the buses now, most tourist could have recognised it as Singapore bus already, a sudden change could affect our economic. Furthermore, Singaporeans should keep their votes private and just chose the colour, we don’t need to comment too much. I LOVE SINGAPORE <3<3<3<3<3
